Kalappadi has its cultivation located mainly in and around Bodinaikkannur in Tamilnadu on the border of Kerala. Impressively sweet, the mangoes of this variety are of moderate size with 6-7 mangoes coming to a kilogram in weight. Because the flesh is highly juicy it is well suited for making the ethnic dish ‘thera’. Even while fully ripe the skin retains green colour though the flesh turns golden yellow.
